Frequently Asked Questions
WHERE IS THE WEDDING?
All events will take place in Buena Vista, CO, a mountain town located ~2 hours southwest of Denver and ~2 hours west of Colorado Springs, at an elevation of ~8,000ft. The ceremony and reception will both be outdoors (however the reception will be tented)!
The average weather this time of year has highs between 70-75°F and lows between 40-45°F (however the temps are unlikely top drop this low before 10pm – you can expect it to be in the 60s with low to no humidity the majority of the night). That said, Colorado weather can be unpredictable – we will provide an up-to-date weather forecast a week ahead of the wedding and make necessary recommendations. As always, bring layers!
WILL TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED?
Yes, transportation will be provided via shuttles to and from the wedding ceremony/reception location from a number stops throughout town. The stops will be determined based on where people are staying (you will be asked to provide the address of your accommodation when you RSVP). Please refer to the map on the Travel & Stay page when booking.
If you choose to drive to the venue, it’s ~10min from town and ample parking is available. You may leave your car overnight, but it must be picked up no later than 9am the following morning. Additionally, Uber/Lyft is not available, so plan accordingly and PLEASE no drinking and driving.
All other wedding-related events will not include transportation, so please factor this in when booking your stay (again, look at the map on the Travel & Stay page)!
should I rent a car?
As Buena Vista is ~2 hours from Denver, we recommend renting a car since there isn’t an easy way to get there otherwise. Plus, we highly recommend extending your stay and exploring the stunning surrounding areas! When booking a car, check Turo in addition to the larger rental companies – it’s often cheaper and more flexible!
There is a bus from Union Station in Denver, however driving is definitely the easiest option. If you choose to bus, contact Emily directly and she will give you information on the route.
It’s also worth noting that Uber/Lyft do not operate in Buena Vista. There is one local taxi for the entire county, but keep in mind this is a mountain town – I would consider this a Plan C rather than a Plan A or B.
can I bring a plus-one?
Unfortunately, due to venue restrictions, we are unable to accommodate plus ones unless specifically noted on your invitation. We appreciate your understanding!
are children invited?
As much as we love your little ones, the Welcome Party and Wedding will be adult-only celebrations. We hope you’re able to let your hair down and celebrate with us during these events! Kids are welcome outside of the Welcome Party and Wedding (ex: the Day After Party).
what is the dress code?
The dress code is “Mountain Formal” (aka, semi-formal with a Colorado vibe). It combines elegance with organic textures and practicality for a high-altitude, meadow setting. Think semi-formal sophistication with the earthy, rich tones and natural fabrics of the Colorado landscape.
For those dressing feminine:
Colors, Pattern, and Texture:
Fall/western/Colorado vibes! Olive and moss greens, burnt orange, terracotta, rust, deep plum/burgundy, and muted black or natural floral patterns. Fun textures and patterns welcome!Silhouettes:
Think ankle-length (maxi) or midi-length dresses. Flowy, tiered skirts, cowl necks, and halter styles are perfect. Have fun with it!Footwear (crucial):
Remember, the wedding is outdoors. Ditch the stilettos. The terrain will be variable (grass, dirt, gravel, wood, cement…) so wear something you can walk in comfortably. Your best options are block or wedge heels or dressy, well-maintained boots.
For those dressing masculine:
Colors, Pattern, and Texture:
Move away from black and grey (still welcome, but again, have fun with your mountain chic attire)! Think: Forest or sage green suits, rich browns and reds/oranges, and textured blues. For fabrics, embrace tweed, corduroy, wool blends, and matte cotton. Patterns (nothing too crazy) welcome!Attire Options:
Opt for a full suit or separates, as long as it hits a semi-formal vibe. If not going with a full suit, then go for a nice blazer paired with a dress shirt and dress trousers or chinos (no denim), and a loafer or dress shoe (you can also wear dressy, well-maintained cowboy boots if that’s your thing).Ties/Accessories:
You can absolutely wear a tie (not required), but they don't have to be standard silk. You can also consider bolo ties, textured ties (wool, knit, or matte cotton), or no tie. An open collar under a sharp blazer is also a strong, polished look. Emily’s only request is no cowboy hats – other than get, get Western with it!
