Travel Information
GENERAL INFORMATION
All events will take place in Buena Vista, Colorado (pronounced BYOO-nuh VIS-tuh… weird, we know), a mountain town located ~2 hours southwest of Denver and ~2 hours west of Colorado Springs.
Buena Vista sits in the Upper Arkansas River Valley at an elevation of 8,000ft, and looks up at the Collegiate Peaks, a stunning section of the Sawatch Mountain Range and home to the most 14ers (aka peaks above 14,000 ft) in the state of Colorado.
The wedding venue itself sits at the base of Mount Princeton, offering what we consider to be some of the best views in the area (but the beauty of BV is that there are amazing views no matter where you look).
FlightS
There are airports in Denver and Colorado Springs, however Denver International Airport (DEN) will likely be your best bet in terms of both travel time and price. There is also the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (COS) however most flights to COS route through DEN anyways. Both airports are roughly a 2 hour drive to Buena Vista and have numerous car rental options available.

where to stay
Buena Vista is a small mountain town West of Denver that thrives on tourism. This means it gets quite busy during the summer rafting season and fall shoulder season when weddings are popular. For this reason, we recommend booking as soon as possible! There are plenty of Airbnbs and VRBOs in the area, as well as a number of large and boutique hotels to choose from.
GETTING AROUND
It is very important to note that Uber/Lyft does not operate in this area, and there is a singular taxi service that serves the entire valley. Transportation will be provided to-and-from the wedding, picking up at multiple stops in the downtown area on the way to the wedding, and dropping off at the same stops (including the location of the After Party, which will be on Main St) after the wedding. Parking will also be available at the venue for those who prefer to drive (but please, NO drinking and driving).
Please refer to the map below when booking your stay – the outlined area will be walkable to majority of pre- and post-wedding events, as well as the pick-up and drop-off locations for the wedding itself. When you RSVP, you will be asked to share the location of your accommodations so we can plan the transportation stop locations accordingly.
A NOTE ON HOTELS
Currently, both The Surf Hotel and the Best Western are showing no availability for this weekend. This will not remain to be the case. These two specific hotels only allow room blocks for events that are being hosted on their property, and they set aside a large number of rooms for these events – these generally do not end up being filled completely, and the remaining rooms will be released to the public.
These rooms will become available as the contracts for each of the events that include blocks release the rooms (majority will start popping up this spring). The closer we get to the event, more rooms will come up, but of course nothing is guaranteed. If you would like to stay at either of these properties, we recommend you keep checking back for availability, and book something refundable as a backup in the meantime!

AIRBNB & vrbo
house rentals
There are many properties available on Airbnb & VRBO in Buena Vista. These are likely the best option due to the nature of hotel blocks (or lack thereof) in the area. Please keep proximity to events and transportation in mind when booking!
THE SURF HOTEL
and residences
The Surf Hotel is comprised of multiple parts – the Hotel itself, The Surf Chateau, The Surf House, and The South Main Residences. All offer different style of accommodation from traditional hotel rooms to Airbnb-style rentals.
Best Western
Vista Inn
The Best Western Vista Inn is on the North side of town and a short walk or drive to both Main Street and all of the natural attractions the area has to offer.
THE SHOREHOUSE
HOTEL
Shorehouse is an extremely cute, boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Buena Vista, only steps from all of the bars and restaurants (and a .1mi walk from the Welcome Party!)
THE Inn AT
BUENA VISTA
The Inn is another cute, upscale boutique hotel in the heart of downtown, close to all pre- and post-wedding events as well as the bars and restaurants of BV.
THE LAKESIDE
MOTEL
Lakeside is a family-owned motel steps from downtown and a short drive to the venue. It’s nothing fancy, but we’ll be playing outside all weekend anyways ;)
VISTA COURT
CABINS
These adorable cabins and cottages with an old-school camp feel are just off of Main Street (walkable to town) and a short drive to the venue. They have traditional lodge rooms, and Studio, 2-, and 3-bed options. They are currently renovating the entirety of the property, so they will be fresh for fall!
Note: Since they are renovating, the cabins are not yet available for booking for September. I spoke to the owner and she said they will open booking ~3 mo ahead (May/June). She will email me before releasing anything, so I can share with our group first! If you’re interested in staying here, please email us, and hold tight!
THE SLACKWATER
INN
The Slackwater Inn is a cozy and cute 10-room property on the south side of town with great views and river access (it’s also dog-friendly, for our local people)! While not walkable to Main Street, it is a short 5 minute drive away to the pre- and post-wedding events and extremely close to many of the outdoor activities that BV has to offer.
Note: This is not currently outlined to be on the path of the wedding transportation, but if we have multiple groups staying here we will do our best to include it!
BUFFALO PEAKS
LODGE
Buffalo Peaks Lodge provides rustic charm in the form of a bed and breakfast with both traditional lodge and cabin options. This is not walkable to Main St, but another easy 5min drive!
COlorado
basecamps
CO Basecamps offers A-Frame and Yurt glamping right on the south side of town, with sweeping views of the Collegiates and comfortable places to stay.
CAMPING (CAMPGROUND
AND DISPERSED)
For our local (or non-local) outdoorsy friends interested in an “authentic” Buena Vista experience (aka, the way Emily and Tyler do it when they come up here!) we’re happy to recommending our favorite reserve-ahead and dispersed camping spots in the area. Whether tent camping or rockin’ a camper van for the weekend, we have some great spots to share! (We’ll update this as it gets closer).
